RPL is a method of assessment (leading to the award of credit) that considers whether learners can demonstrate that they can meet the assessment requirements of all or a portion of the qualification using knowledge, understanding, or skills that they already have and do not need to develop through a course of learning.
The student can present evidence that already meets the requirements of all or a portion of the qualification they are pursuing. They may bring proof of prior learning or achievement from (1) a full-time or part-time job, (2) other courses they have taken, or (3) volunteer or unpaid work. The evidence provided by the student must be consistent with the requirements (learning outcomes and associated criteria) of the qualification sought. Learning evidence must be valid and reliable.
